There is something about laying out the soil, sowing the seeds and misting them down that is good.  It's getting your hands dirty. It's giving those little seeds what they need to grow.  It's active.  Then that tray of soon to be greens is placed in a warm germinating chamber.  And we wait....  We wait to see what will spring up with signs of life. We wait to see what fruit comes of the seeds we planted.  It seems like the last six months have been a germination period for us.  We had a season of work-building a new greenhouse, switching locations, winter growing-and we have planted our dreams and ideals, and now we are germinating...waiting to see what will spring up with signs of life.

The Seeds:

1. Work together as a family

I know this might sound crazy...but we actually like each other.  We like to live together and we enjoy working together.  We had grand ideals of our family working all together, doing chores, growing food, selling food all with giant smiles on our faces.  And then we had kids.  We tried it for awhile, but if anyone saw us at market, you saw us chasing a two year old down the isle or picking up the potatoes that our four year old knocked off the shelf, and that was them on a good day! However, we still have this dream of working together, or at least near each other.  So we built a massive greenhouse near our home in a food desert.  Great idea, right?! I think this is a step for our family to be more hands on.

2. Nutrition

This has been a heart behind what we do the entire time.  It's a journey for us.  Josh tells of when he started trying to eat healthy and thought he had arrived because he was eating grape nuts and yogurt.  He had a friend question him by saying, "you think that is healthy?" That was the beginning of a mind shift for him.  We believe that food is medicine.  We believe in honoring our bodies by what we put in it.  We are ever on a journey of seeking out what is it our bodies need.

3. Relationship

We are dedicated to serving our customers and desire to be a connection between people and the food they are eating.  We are filled with life when we get to interact and serve our customers.  We love answering questions and being transparent with our farming practices. We are always thinking of new ideas to create excitement about food and community.

Part of Josh's daily chores is to check the germination chamber and see what has sprouted up that can be brought out into the light.  We feel similar to those trays right now.  Hanging out, warming up, soaking in and then soon we will be brought out in the light and see just what has sprouted of the seeds we've planted.  Hope you guys can journey with us and follow as we grow along side these tiny amazing plants of ours!
